cd burning

When I download songs to burn onto cd's they sound great. However after I burn them onto the cd they sound horrible. I don't know what I am doing wrong and I need some help. I am using Windows 2000 as an operating system and using nero software to burn the disks. I have copied from one cd to another and that turned out great. Please help me....

Music downloaded off the web is in MP3 format. CD's use .wav format. The files should sound as good as the original mp3.

What do you mean by "sounding horrible." They just sound crappy or they sound like noise?
