I've got to purchase another computer since mine is about one notch above an etch-a-sketch. I have a few questions before I buy.
1. If you have a dvd drive and a cd-rw drive, can you burn a cd by using the dvd drive to cd-rw, just like a stand alone dual tray cd recorder, and without converting to wav files or such?
2.Also when you are mixing down from another recorder, can you burn a cd without converting to something else first? (wav file etc.)
3. One more which has nothing to do with recording or cd burning. What is a good choice of processors?
1. pentium lll 850 to 900 mhz
2.amd athlon 1 ghz
Thanks for the help !

Q1 and Q2 sound software dependent, while 3a and 3b sound like you aren't hip to the fact that the real power of these processors is roughly equivalent!
Pay attention to the rest of the shit attached to them.
In particular: the motherboard, the chipset and the hard drive or drives involved. RAM of course, as a function of O/S & apps. Some are greedier than others. That's what really determines sufficiency in the audio arena.
All else is marketing and scare tactics.

1. Yes. A DVD drive can be a CDROM drive. However, with a CD burner 8X or faster, you're going to have to copy to the hard drive first anyway...but that'll all be done in software automatically...and it doesn't take much longer.

2. No. You'd need a standalone recorder for that.

3. Pentium III 800 or better. Yes the Athlon is a great processor, but I GUARANTEE you will have less headaches long term with the Intel processor simply because that's what everyone SUPPORTS. (remember there is more to it than just the processor when it comes to compatibility...in fact the processor isn't usually the problem in an AMD system) Kind of a raw deal really. Save your brain for reccording :)
