Do you any of you know if CD Baby will print and ship CD's on an as-needed basis for people that buy a CD? In other words, if I set up an account, can I just upload the artwork and music and they'll print up a CD and ship it out in the event that some dummy buys my music? Or do I have to send them a box of already printed up CD's?

Pretty sure they do now.
I'm on CD Baby.
They are doing whatever it takes to sell music and have come up with some fairly innovative ideas such as printing download cards for your album and selling them to you.
You in turn would sell them for as much as you want at your gigs.
CDs are going the way of the dodo bird.

Right, I'm gonna have downloadable options, but for those people that still want a CD, I wanna know if CD Baby will print them on-demand and only as-needed.

So that would be a "Yes".
Good people too, down in Portland, Oregon.

You gotta call 'em and talk to them--the web stuff's a bunch of sales hype. I did a major project with them last year and liked the guy I worked with--you want to me to dig up his contact info and pass it along?

Sure that would be cool. PM it to me please.

I did answer your question, you just didn't get it so I'll do it one last time.
Watch me now.
Read this..
Order anywhere from 1 to 1,000 copies of your album
Design & order retail-ready CDs or DVDs online 24/7
Choose from 5 day, 2 day, or even next day service
Reorder discs with the press of a button
CD Baby only keeps a limited number of CDs on the shelf.
They do not wait for an order and then print your CD.
What they will do, is notify you when your stock is low.
Then you ask them to make more. "At the push of a button".

That answers my question, if you're right. You shoulda said that the first time, which you didn't. I'm gonna go ahead and call them. You're not very reliable.

When it comes to physical CD's, you supply your stock to them. They do not make them up as needed. Typically, you send them 5 copies. They use one to create your artist page, create sample clips and mp3's for downloading. The remaining 4 are inventory. They order more from you as needed.

For what it's worth, they provide an excellent service and have always paid on time.

I think this is basically true however it depends on your fan base. No one I know that would buy my music walks around with an IPod in their pocket and an earplug. Don't completely discount CD's yet...it ain't over till the fat dinosaur sings.

Ok thanks.

I think I have a friend who's band did something like that.

I think they did it through lulu though. The band never had any inventory, and lulu sold the CDs for $8 plus whatever markup the band added.

Kunaki can do this then drop ship to CDBaby. I remember you were looking at them quite a while ago, was there something wrong with the service? Is it still an option?

Nope, I'm set up with kunaki right now. I just ordered my first batch of CD's for selling locally. They should be here next week. They give you an online sales page though. Maybe I'll use them for selling physical CD's online and just use CD Baby for digital distribution to Itunes, Napster, etc..

Cool. And you tell them to ship 5 to CDBaby and you're good to go, right?

Kunaki looks like a good deal. The printing alone can get expensive. I just priinted out a few inserts for mine with a lot of black ink and that stuff aiin't cheap.

I guess.

I've never done this before.

Kunaki is 1.70 per CD. 2 panel insert, color printed CD, tray card. I got my review copy, and it looks and sounds great.

I made a number of attempts at answering your question for you because you are too lazy or stupid to call them and find out for yourself and then you come back at me with this piece of garbage for an answer.
Now to top it all off, you have accepted someone else's answer that CD Baby doesn't make CDs when I know for a fact that they do.
Do CD Baby a favour.
Leave them alone.
They don't deserve you.

Lol. Calm down. I know they make CD's, but it doesn't seem to be on-demand when someone buys my music....which is what I'm asking about. They need/want me to supply them with inventory. Maybe I'm not making myself clear enough for you. I don't want to sit on any inventory, and I don't want them to have to either. Let's say Jim, Sally, and Bob by my album from CD Baby. I'm asking if CD Baby will print up 3 CD's right then and there and ship them to Jim, Sally, and Bob without me having to send any already made CD's to CD Baby beforehand. Do you understand the question now?

Your attempts at answering my question were just copy and pastes from the CD Baby site. I've read every word on there already. It doesn't address what I'm asking. I will call tomorrow morning. These forums are for asking questions and hopefully someone will have a useful answer. Your answers were not useful. It's nothing to be ashamed or mad about. If you don't know the specific answer to my specific question, which you clearly don't, then just shut the fuck up.

Greg,

Our CD is on CDBaby. YOU send them the stock. When they get low, they call you and ask YOU to send more. At least that is what they do for us.
