So my old Samsung DVD player from 2001 has never played CD-R's. After many years and learning about the Redbook standard, I figured that was the reason; it would only play Red Book CD's.

I recently burned a CD with Sony CD Architect (trial version) and it still wouldn't run on that DVD player. I even double checked to make sure the pre-requisistes were filled (2 second gap in the beginning, etc.).

I did use CD text.

Is it a CD-R or CD-RW? If it's an RW, try a CD-R. If it's a CD-R, make sure it's written using write-at-once, and closed at the end. Also, try to make sure you use CD-R brands as recommended by the manufacturer of your burner (they usually include recommended lists in their docs or on their websites), make sure that the specs on the discs meet or exceed the rating of your burner (e.g., do not use 16x discs in a 48x burner, or 600MB discs in a burner speced to 700MB, even if you only burn at lesser specs), and try to set your burn speed to somewhere around 20-25% the maximum rated burn speed of the burner, a sthis tens to be a kind of "sweet spot' with many newer burner models.

Then make sure it'll play elsewhere.

If all that works out OK for you and it still does not play in your Samsung, you may simply have a CD player that does not like CD-Rs.

I did burn at 10x, its a 48x burner. Haven't checked to see if the CD-R brand is recommended by the manufacturer. There wasn't an option to do TAO or DAO in CDA, so I'm assuming its DAO by default. It does play in other CD players, but they all play non Red Book CD-R's anyway.

I may have to make a trip to Guitar Center tomorrow to get that one really nice brand of CD-R's, even though GC probably charges an arm and a leg for them. But I'll also check out the recommended brands for the burner.

Thanks!
