OK, I'm ready for the insults, cracks, etc. I'm an amateur recordist and have been using a very old Casio for limited keys tracks on my tunes (I'm a guitarist), but want to upgrade to a 76-key unit with half-decent piano and strings sounds.
I know the casios will never be considered 'pro' equipment, but my usage will be minimal, no gigging, and I have very limited funds.
Tell me what I could get for the same amount that would suit my purpose. Incidentally, this model is now @ $249 at Best Buy.

No great evil will befall you should you get the WK500. It looks like it has a reasonable library of voices, some of which will be okay, and some not so. I don't know about its piano or string sounds. While they are probably not excellent, given the developments in keyboards in recent years, and your assumed modest needs, they are probably reasonable enough to work with.

And even if not, you can use the keyboard and its MIDI to drive VSTi that you can use witin a DAW.

Hope this keyboard is good - a big package arrived today from Santa Claus, but I can't open it until Friday!

I played one quickly at Best Buy the other day, pretty good key action and piano sound - at least compared to the 25 year old plastic-keyed Casio I've been using (first Gen midi).
