OK, I'll bite! I have 5 Carvin guitars. A late 80's Ultra V, an early 90's DC200, a Bolt kit, a Bolt plus kit, and a one off CT3.
There are some things I like about Carvin guitars and some things I don't (newer models) The graphite rods in the neck seem to have a negative effect on the overall tone. I hate their pickups! They tend to use cheap electronics that aren't up to par with the rest of the guitar IMO. On the other side of the fence, their painter (he's not there anymore) did some incredible work! I like their finishes, the workmanship is really good. The guy that runs setups does a great job. Their kits are a great way to get into guitar finishing. Their warranty services are fantastic!
I have 3 Carvins. One is an all maogany DC127 that is really nice, a Carvin guitar kit that I put together and looks and plays great, and a 5 string Bass kit, also looks and plays great. As you can see, I think Carvin is a nice bargain on the electric side. The finish on the guitars from Carvin is almost unbelievable! The pictures do not do them justice.
I'm not a big fan on their acoustic side.
With their return policy, its a win-win situation. If you do not like it, send it back.
I've got six Carvin guitars; 3 electrics, 2 basses and 1 acoustic/electric. All are at least as good as any Fender/Gibson axes in my collection. Follow the links for pics.
an awesome guitar, back in the day when carvin made guitars with the gibson scale length, and this thing has been BRUTALIZED and is stil as tight and right as the day i got it.
i never liked the bridge pickup tho, changed it right away, to a duncan JB, and later (current) a duncan custom custom.
this is the guitar i play when i want to tear it up.
Ive played them all and I like my Carvin the best. Very low string action. I do agree about pickups being not the best. But most people replace stock picups anyway.
