anyone own one. How are they? I read the reviews at HC and they were rated very high. My buddy has one he wants to sell me for 275.00 and I am thinking of buying it. I was looking at the fender blues junior new for 399.00 but I can save some bucks and maybe get a better amp?

For two years I owned a Carvin VT50 which was part of the same vintage series (all of which have the same circuts and EL84 power tubes). Basically, it was a head/cab version of the Belair. I mainly gigged with it but also did some recording with it now and then.

In my opinion save your money for a better amp. It never broke down but it never sounded all that great either: the lead channle was buzzy, brittle, harsh, and grainy at all volumes. It worked for me at that time because I was just using it to run noisy loops through. The clean channel was okay, though, so if you don't nead overdrive then it might work out for you.

The September 2007 issue of Guitar Player includes a "showdown" between the Carvin Nomad and four similar tube combos. They seem to like the amp, though it does some things better than others. I see that your buddy is giving you a good price, though you might want to read the article before you dig into your pocket.

After that Super Reverb I can't see you digging a Carvin.

I bought my kid a blonde Blues Jr. It's loud and a little beamy. I put a Weber Beam Blocker in it and got him a 50W MASS Lite and it's a way more fun amp in that setup.

I like it so much I'm gonna do the same for my Rivera, except the 100W version of the MASS.

C7sus, could you tell an ol' dawg about the Weber Beam Blocker and MASS? I've got an amp that I would like to hot rod some, if this is what ur talking about...sorry about hijacking thread, but also had a Carvin amp, reliable, but not the best sounding, I'd save for a Fender 4-10...right now I have a Peavey Delta Blues 30watt with 15" Blue Marvel...takes 20 minutes for it to warm up, but it kicks. Any suggestions? I still have the Carvin gear, and it works, good backup.

I have a fender super reverb, 1968, four tens, just to big and heavy to carry around anymore.
