OK, I'm picking out paint and carpet colors.

Lowe's has this commercial grade carpet, (which I really like) for 38 cents a sqft. it has multi colors. the three main types: one is dominatly green, another is medium blue and the third has a purple tint.

What are your thoughts/suggestions on the carpet color and what are your suggestions on wall colors?

What about ceiling colors..black, white, off-white or another?

thanks

Are you sure you want to use carpet?
It absorbs a lot of high end frequency, making the room sound predominately bass-y.
Colors are a pretty personal choice.
I'm partial to a sort of midnight blue for walls with maybe some accents of purple.
I think I'd go with the same color on the walls for the ceiling. Maybe just a tad lighter.

Michael,

The carpet is for my vocal room and control room. I am putting parquet wood flooring in my drum/live room. I am going to offset and build low end freq absorbers as well as some more acoustic treatment.

I thought you'd go for the blue, I still have the thread about my drum room flooring.

I really liked your idea on the walls with the dark blue base and lighter blue highlite.

Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere ...... on the web, I saw a studio someone was building that had a concrete floor painted with a dark cherry and black "swirl" (not circled) with deep purple or plum walls. It was awesome. I've searched for 6 months trying to find it again because that's what I want in the live room. At this point my cathedral suspended ceiling will be white. I might paint it a darker color later depending on how it looks white. I definitely won't be putting carpet in there. I plan on building 703 based bass panels to install on the walls (Ethans design).

I'm not much on color schemes but this really looked good.

DD,

If you find that site please post a link. Yeah the ceiling I'm kind of back and forth on. white, off-white or even some tint all the way to black. Man tough decisions. I'll probably just paint it white or off-white and change it later.

Keep in mind, light colors make a room seem bigger while darker ones tend to 'shrink' your space. Custom art work on the walls can allways give you that 'this is my space' kind of feeling. My suggestion, do whatever turns you on, if others like it,fine, if they don't its their problem not yours. Happy decorating.

Watch out if you pick a red, purple, or plum color. My control room is Full Wine and it looks cool when the lighting is right. If the lighting is bright the color can look funny. I was looking at some recent photos and I thought I was working in a big grape. No more flash allowed!!!

An interesting twist to what Dani said...

If you use a dark color on the ceiling and lighter on the walls the ceiling tends to feel taller than it is. We've done this in two different rooms in our home and it looks great.

I think I'm going with a blue mixed carpet and a dark blue on my vocal room walls. A light blue on the control room walls. I'm not sure about the Drum Room yet (with the parquet flooring). Ceilings white/off-white at least for now.

Thanks all for your input.

Was it Joe Egans website by the way?

Thanks SoMm. I checked it out (and all the other studios on John's site) but it wasn't the one. Oh well, somewhere, somewhere somewhere ......
