I have hardwood floor, it's polished and looking all nice... Since I just painted the studio, before I put anything back in i'm thinking about putting some carpet, and maybe a rug over it. I'm not sure if I should put something else in between the carpet and the floor since the carpet would be that cheap home depot stuff.

Either way it has to be done soon, since most of the music equipment is sleeping with me and my girlfriend in our bed (no other place to put it) and she's sick of sleeping with my monitors even thought I think they're sexy.

I like a hard floor for recording. I'd leave it wood. Maybe put a rug under your drums (if you have drums).

Are you saying that I won't encounter any issues with the floor that I would encounter with the ceiling or the walls? If that's the case then I'll skip working on the floor altogether. Everything I record is digital except for the vocals and I don't have a vocal booth. No live drums. Guitars are plugged straight into the preamp/soundcard, i'm not using any microphones.

If you can explain how the hardwood floor affects mixing and recording vocals (assuming that the rest of the room is padded completely) that would be great, thanks.

Yeah...if I had nice wood floors, I'd keep it.
It can be used to your advantage from a tracking and a mixing standpoint...providing you treat the room.
Search out bass traps, diffusors and their placement.

Luck man....sounds like a cool project. ;)

Stop the insanity!!!
Please don't cover an other wood floor.
If you need to from time to time just put down some throw area rugs if your having problems with floor reflections, but then again you could probably fix that with proper mic placement.
Have fun in your refurbished studio.

I definitely wouldn't "pad" the whole room either. I'd start with corner bass traps and absorption at the first relfection points from your monitors to your ears. Skip foam or padding. Use rigid fiberglass or rockwool. :)
