Carillon PC's... I am about to order one as my DAW, anyone know anything about them?

it's the VIA chipset. Any motherboard with a VIA chipset, even if it's an Intel CPU, has problems at times with audio devices

I'm well aware of that, you're new, so you probably haven't read any of my previous postings, but everytime someone asks for a mobo recommendation I say "stay away from Via".

The thing you don't seem to be aware of, is that there are lots of mobos for the AMD platform that don't use Via chipsets (or just a Via southbridge with an AMD Northbridge, which has proved to be a stable chipset). I'm using an nforce chipset myself which has given me no problems at all with my Delta 66 card. Other people have had great success with the Sis chipsets (sis 735 and 745)

As you say yourself, even an Intel platform has issues with Via chipsets, so whether you choose AMD or Intel, you have to do some research before you buy!

This is pretty well-known, I'm surprised it's coming as a shock to you

As I said, it's not, far from it! :)

Hey Pisces,

For the 30 bucks, let Carillon put the sound card in for you. If that was the difference in price for my Delta 1010, I would have had them do it. How ever I got a really good deal on it $499 with a free SE2000 Condenser mic and cable from Bayveiw Audio. They now have the same mic deal but are charging 699.

My saga continues though with problems. Last night I went to install My Event EZBus on the computer. Well, I couldn't get the system to load correctly. I have a feeling that it is yet another IRQ conflict. When messing with the sound card, I was finally able to get it on IRQ 10. Guess what else is on IRQ 10. You got it, it is the USB Controller. At one point I switched the EZBus to pass audio and midi with a midi cable hooked up and it rebooted my computer. It would not even boot all the way with that hookup and everything on. Now there's a problem. I will be getting on the horn with Event to try and determine the problem with this new issue. If it turns out to be another IRQ issue, I will have to contact Carillon again.

ARGH:mad: ...What a hassle.

Again let them do the installation.

Peace
Joe

Damn man...

I'm really sorry to hear all the BS you are having to go through. I will probably let them install the MOTU 2408mkII for me when I do buy this system. let me know when you get all this shit figured out what the problem(s) were.

Also let me know how the barebones two system performs. I am still undecided weather or not I should get the Barebones three of the Barebones two system. There IS an $800 difference. That would almost pay for the MOTU 2408mkII. I know myself, and if I get the Barebones Two then i will always wonder how the Barebones three would have been. but if I get the Barebones Three then i will constantly wonder if I got more than I actually needed and could have saved a bundle (buyer's guilt!)

Anyway, we'll see.

Carillon USA and Wave Digital

I think that Carillon's USA distributor is Wave Digital. I just got a new Mac for audio, and I would've liked to have used Wave Digital as my vendor--they're very nice folks, but they were way too slow to respond to my queries, I think they're way backed up and have some staffing issues. They seem to have a good reputation, but I was a little concerned about their level of service, especially for non-pro studio clients. I wound up going with a different vendor, which has been a wise decision...

This is to JC Lives and all of you that have bought a PC from Carillion or some other customized vendor.

Please post exactly what they sold you including the small stuff so people like myself who are trying to build a PC from scratch get a better idea of what parts are proven to work together, especially the parts that make a PC quiet.

Thanks JC, I think that can bring light to some of us who are wandering in the dark with no direction to go.....I don't wanna sound negative, but it's just that I've been reading a lot of the threads here and sometimes I feel that the more I read, the more questions pop up in my head...
Thanks dude...

Alonso,

I am glad that the info was able to help. As far as your frustratioins, it only get better or (worse if you let it). The deeper you get into this stuff called recording, the more complex it gets. But for me, even thought it gets frustrating at times, can be very fun.

Good luck with your project. Once that is done then you get to look forward to selecting your software and learning it.

Peace
Joe
