I'm recording multitrack digital and mixing down to a stereo master, through an optical cable onto a NetMD recorder. I find that when I listen to my finished songs on headphones on the MD they sound just like I wanted. If heard through home HI-fi speakers not quite as good (loss of punch and fidelity and subtle details), and in the car, not too close at all to how it sounded in the headphones. My question: do I need to add a little extra EQ in the mids or something to punch up the sound for when it's played through speakers; and in the car - I've heard a lot of commercially recorded and mixed CDs that sound fantastic in the car, HOW DO THEY DO IT! (Even though most car speaker placement is very inefficient, i.e. door speakers pointing away from the listener and down at thier feet ETC.)
Any advice/feedback on this would be highly appreciated.
Thanx!

Hi SPLATTER !
Sorry you had to ask that question...join us
Welcome to the rest of your life !!! :D

Gotta get some real monitors. They'll help you out sooo much. I reccomend the Wharfedales. A fellow named Deepwater can hook you up with a powered set for $300. Best 300 bucks you've ever spent garanteed!

PLats,

They mix using good loudspeakers in a well designed room that has enough acoustic treatment to ensure an accurate low end. You can't mix very well with headphone, and you can't mix very well in a room that has no bass traps.

Monitors

Well, I guess I better buy me some monitors then...!

Maybe I'll try monitoring through my PA amp and speakers until I save the dough for studio monitors (for me, the term "starving musician" is not just a figure of speech!)

Thanx for 'da help.

BOY was that a redundant question...

After reading more threads (yes, I'm new to the forum, and semi-new to multi-track recording) I saw what a redundant question I was asking about mixdown through cans! I'm DEFINATELY getting some Wharfdales, A.S.A.P.!
