Who has got a preference for using tantulum capacitors instead of electrolytics in audio gear or power supplies ?

I am putting together some battery powered amp gear (no mains) and am trying to avoid using electrolytics. Any difference ??

Actually...

I'll get back to you with 2 VERY GOOD links.

Oh, my gawd. Marsh and Jung! Those articles of Marsh's from "The Audio Amateur" were the spark that led to that bunch of crazies attacking my gear back in the '80s- and the fact that they were well-written and sounded reasonable was why I let them do it. Oh, what an agonizing flashback _that_ is... I talked about this a little in https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=15482 if anyone is interested.

Thanks, RE. Reading that link has just caused me a spontaneous outbreak of ulcers. AaaaGGhh! The bells! Make it STOP! Make it STOP! (;-)

These guys do write well, and there's no question that they are onto something. However, you need to temper their zeal (Rip 'em all out!) with a modicum of reality. You also need to remember that if you pull a module from your nice Neve board, you'll see a metric shitload of tantalums... Every cap can be misused, and there's no question that many designs can be improved on. However (and this is where I depart from Marsh and Jung and their activist buddies) this does not mean that *every* design should be ripped apart and screwed with: some people do know how to design hardware, and have used these parts with excellent results. There are many, many revered pieces of gear that use electros and tants right there in the big-ass middle of the signal path, and the sun still rises in the morning.

Marsh and Jung. Ohmigawd. I think I'm gonna need therapy again. I need my blankie, some Thorazine, and a long nap, and maybe the shakes will go away...

Thanks for the info - and the stories in the links. C7 (link) has got what he needs.
