can't solo from soundcard outputs?

I'm using Auditition 1.5 with a 2496 soundcard. I set a track up to record select my input etc. I get signal and I can record but I don't hear anything until play back. There has got to be a way to monitor from the soundcard out as I record right?
 
read the sound card instructions !!. in the 2496 control panel there is a setting for pass through monitoring.

You can do it with the soundcard only. Audition doesn't have this capability.
