Can't say I really needed it, but...

It's Too Funky in Here!!!
I found a used TASCAM 414mkII, inclucing AC adaptor & 4 new TDK SM-20 cassettes, in box, for $25 @ the local Goodwill. Works perfectly. It was a sweet deal I just couldn't pass up. I'm pretty stoked, anyway. Add it to my collection, at least it's small. I spent a couple hours doing a little scratch recording with my oldest son yesterday. Showed him the ropes. He's newly into music and a chip off the old block. Fun, yeah! ;)

At best it helps me get a little motivated about recording again, if just for fun. At worst, I could eBay it off for twice what I paid. I've been good for a long time, living in austerity, doing without sometimes and never squandering money, but who doesn't like a new toy now and then? I had to pop. The tapes alone are worth $10.

OT, about a month ago I saw a nice condition TEAC A-106 at Goodwill,... very clean but obviously needed a belt and minor repair. I weighed the options very carefully about not "needing" any more fixit gear, and not "needing" to spend the $10 to get it. A couple days thinking about it and someone else got it and will hopefully fix it, give it a good home & put it to good use. Good stuff moves fast at thrift stores, which I frequent about every 2 weeks.

OT, I still continue to get brand new blank cassettes of all sorts and VHS tapes at the local thrift stores. It's a source of great stuff at affordable prices, & shouldn't be overlooked.

It's neither here nor there, but there was no indecision about the 414mkII when I saw it. It's virtually the first TASCAM Portastudio I've ever seen at a thrift store. GREAT FIND! I'm not bragging or gloating, but I'm very happy. I remember the days when these were $250/new. I hardly ever buy anything anymore. With regard to my situation, one of my challenges is to use my stuff more often and to sell a bunch of stuff I don't use. Another post altogether. I'm not one to post here very often anymore, but this is it ATM.

Cheers!
:spank::eek:;)

Wow!That is a pretty decent score.
Even if you didn't need it,it would be hard to just walk on by the thing sitting there for that price.
I would have jumped on it too.

Yeah!

It hardly gets any better than that!
That's what keeps me coming back to thrift stores regularly.
You never know what you'll find.

Ditto here. Just scored a Maranz 6300 turntable in mint condition for a whopping $27 at Goodwill. Stuck it on ebay, and had over 600 lookers. In the last minute, the bid's jumped every other second until it sold for ...get this....$504!!!! I nearly fainted. and btw Dave, this is fitz. You still in the same place? Oh, and tell your son Mr. Purple says hi!:D

Dave, yeah, I too would probably pick one up if I ever saw it in this condition locally. Sure, there's always the danger of slipping to old ways but as long as we have a check on that.... Anyway, I too was in a local thrift store a few days back and picked up a sealed VHS 5 tape pack for $2.99. I couldn't pass up. I guess those tapes "sealed" the deal. :D
