OK,

I'm going to overstay my welcome here at Homerecording.com and ask yet another newbie question - this time about Audition.

I'm recording simple voice tracks and want to do so in MONO (obviously). The problem is I can only do this in the Multitrack View, not in the Edit View. I do File > New and then choose 44100 sample rate, MONO and 32-bit, but once I do that I cannot get any input levels, nor do I hear anything in the playback. This only happens in Edit View - not in Multitrack View and it doesn't seem to be an issue if I try to record in STEREO in the Edit View - as that does produce an input level (on the Left Track only, but that's normal given that I have a single mic input).

UPDATE: I did notice that I DO get input levels in Edit View if I am working with a 16-bit track, but NOT with a 32-bit track. Weird!! Anyone have any ideas why?

I've checked my Firebox's Mixer settings and I've got the Mic 1 fader panned to the center of the channel. I've also double-checked all the Device Properties and Device Order settings to make sure there wasn't some obscure setting I'd missed, but nothing jumps out at me.

Anyone else have this issue when trying to record MONO in Edit View of AA?

You need to make sure in the device properties or device order that the input you have your mic plugged into on your soundcard has an EV next to it or the box is checked for using that input in edit view.

This will use that input as the default for Edit View recording.

Hi Tukkis,

Thanks for your inpute. However, I did this already, which is why I am actually able to record STEREO in edit view at the very least, but MONO still won't work... Any other things it could be?

I'm stumped...

Whats your input chain?
What input are you settting to record with in the multitrack view?

The same input I've got set for Edit View.

My input chain is as follows:

Mic to pre-amp (XLR connection to Mic input 1) >> Pre-amp to PreSonus Firebox digital interface (via XLR to the Mic input 1) >> Digital interface to Dell Latitude laptop via firewire connection (6pin to 4pin cable) >> Adobe Audition.

The weird thing is, that I get great levels for Multitrack, regardless of bit-depth. I also get levels in Edit View for 16-bit tracks ONLY. Once I select New >> 44100hz, MONO, 32-bit and then try to get input levels or actually record I get nothing.
