Can't record direct from Fruityloops into Cool Edit w/ Audiophile Firewire soundcar

I'm using FL Studio 4 and an m-audio firewire audiophile. I've got no other problems with my soundcard, only I can no longer record directly from fruityloops output - i.e. I start cooledit recording and press play on fruityloops. I need to do this rather than simply exporting from fruityloops because otherwise the junglist synth drops notes.
This used to work using the Yamaha XG soundcard that came with my computer (and still does) but not with the audiophile
I've tried using soundforge, and a couple of other direct recording programs but none of them see any output at all.

Any ideas?
Cheers

Does CoolEdit support VST or DX instruments? (Vsti or DXi?) cuz you can run FruityLoops as a VSTi or DXi instrument.

M-Audio deliberately chose to override the windows mixer (because Microsoft is estabilishing Secure Audio Path to prevent pirates from recording protected audio streams, why it is actually a bad dicision to override it I'll tell you later).

In other words, they disabled direct recording from one app to another. I'm far from happy with it, but I now route software return 1/2 to the s/pdif out, and that to the s/pdif in with a coax cable, so I can still record the software returns. Be careful not to monitor both signals (disable one) or you'll get feedback.

So, now my digital buses are filled up.
Did I already tell you I really hate them for this, and other things like the occasional driver crashes/freezes?
