I know this is stupid, but I can't pause in my pro tools LE? There's no pause on the transport. The help says alt-start, what's that mean? alt-play doesn't pause it just goes back to the beginning.

Help please....

I don't know about Protools, but most software uses the space bar to play/pause.

Correct! Spacebar starts and stops the transport. It may help you if you read the manual.

Correct advice has been give here but if you're still experiencing probs with "PLAY/Pause" try lowering your DAE playback buffer to 0/zero while boosting the cache size gradually.

When the song is playing, and I hit the spacebar, it stops and goes back to the beginning, not pausing.

You need to enable "Insertion follows playback" if you wish to have the transport behave like this.

This means that when you press stop (say at 2'06"), then press play again, it will play back from 2'06".

How to enable "insertion follows playback" varies depending on the version of Pro Tools you have so I suggest reading in your Pro Tools Reference Manual (which can be accessed through the help menu) for the exact method.

I hope that helps.

In future it may be more beneficial to you to post Pro Tools related questions in the Pro Tools forum... ;)

pezking, Bingo, That's it. I did find it in the owners manual page 359 of 1112. It might would have taken me a while to get there. That's why I'm in a froum ;) Thank you for the input. And I will from now on post questions concerning PT in that section :drunk:

No problem, mate.

It's actually a really useful feature, especially when you're editing. You can quickly and easily switch between the two modes by hitting "N" while you're in the edit window (providing you have keyboard focus enabled).

Good luck with your project and hopefully I can help answer any other questions you have in the future!

Pausing in the Protools Express transport interface

I know this is an old question, but I couldn't figure it out at first. I found the answer just now in this forum. Using the space bar triggers the transport interface. Then you can use the space bar and the transport interface to pause. Reading the manual is helpful. Play with it too. It's quite often I discover functions that aren't in the manual.
