I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but whenever I install cubase 5 on my new 64bit Windows 7 machine, it simply installs it as an x86 32bit app and dosen't at any point give an option for a 64 bit install, or for that matter automatically detect it and install it as 64bit as default. It just installs 32 bit and that's it. Is there something I'm missing in the install process? Or do I need a specific 64bit version of cubase? I attempted to patch it after install using 64 bit patches off Steinberg's site, but they won't recognise the program as it's already just gone ahead and installed as a 32bit app. I've trawled google and all over the place but there's nothing about the install process and how to stop cubase running in x86. Any ideas?

did you use the installer program or did you just browse to a folder and click on setup?

I tried running it straight from the disc but autorun.exe isn't working automatically and navigating to it and clicking on it does nothing, program dosen't open, so the only install option I have is to click 'setup' which automatically installs as x86 with no options to change. I've got one setup msi for cubase specifically here, so no x64 installer seperate in the install directories either. The best I get is install path which even if you put it in the normal program files dosen't make any difference, it still runs at 32 bit.
Steinberg's site updates appear to only update your existing install, as trying any x64 specific updates throws up an error, and dual updates don't give an option to change, they just write over whatever you've already got. Seriously pulling my hair out over this one like..

I'm sure when I installed mine it had the option when you get the installer window pop up. I also had problems with the vst instruments the one time I didn't use the installer window, it had to install the samples after cubase was done. So see what you can do to get that installer window to show up.

OK, So I looked at my disk and in the root directory there is an app called Cubase_5_Start_Center. That's the thing that should start when you put the disk in. It asks you what country your in then gives you a few install options.

I also looked in the "Cubase 5 For Windows" folder and it has two installer packages. Cubase5 and Cubase5_64bit.

This might be a stupid question but are you sure you have a 64bit OS? Because when I put the disc in the 32 bit machine i'm typing this on it didn't give the option for 64bit.
