I'll state what I currently have right now. Tascam 200 connected via USB. Rode Nt1a mic connected in the Mic/line in. I think it is working because I can see the "sig" light flash when I pat my mic. The Tascam is default sound/recording. I also don't know what a monitor is...So basically a newbie trying to figure out how to get started. Thanks for the help!

Please give every specification you have available for every piece of gear you are trying to use in this connection. PC/Mac, OS version/bit rate, interface model, monitors/PC speakers, DAW/software you are using.........

It will be the only way we can help effectively.

A monitor is the device you will listening to your recording with. You'll need headphones to monitor a microphone (rather than speakers) to prevent feedback.
Try reading the stickied threads at the top of this section of the forum about getting started and computer recording.

PC, Win 7 64bit, interface model?, Headphones?/not using any PC speakers, probably going to be using Adobe Audition 3. I don't know if it's valid, but currently using Skype to see if I can hear it or not. Right now, it gives me a "problem with recording device". That's about all the information that I think I know...

Sorry, no idea about Skype, but in a DAW, you select the input device (in this case the Tascam). How do you plan on listening to what you are recording?

Skype has its own audio setup that's separate from your system audio.

Go to the skype preferences and set up your ins and outs there.

Okay. I'm finally getting what question I want to ask. Basically, why my mic won't work with skype even though I set my ins and outs. Maybe it doesn't work with the interface?

By imput1, do you mean Mic/Line/Instr In on the interface? Well either way, both don't seem to work

Yehp. Mic/Line/Inst In. It says one beside it ;).

Make sure phantom power is on and the gain is up.

Also make sure your tascam drivers are up to date and that skype is up to date.

Does your operating system see the tascam interface?

Phantom power is on. By gain do you mean the nob? I just put it in the middle. Well, I've turned it in many directions. still didn't work. Still get the message, "Problem with Recording Device"

Maybe my tascam interface drivers need an update? My operating system does see the Tascam as unspecified. I've also set it as default everything.

OK, well try the drivers and skype update thing then. See how that goes.

Also, make sure your tascam isn't going through a hub or an old usb 1.1 port.

If you're not sure, switch it to a different usb port round the back of your pc.

Ah. I updated the driver. Now it works! Thanks! Finally, its resolved.

Kick ass :)

Whats the plan? Are you a musician?

Hang around and let us know how you get on.

Yes, definitely get back to us. We like to hear the magic that members here produce! :D

By the way Steeno, you rock! :D (Blatant stroke of member helpfulness).

I must spre..................

Bit like that. Not like Brighton Rock though. I think that's just different.
