My setup.

keyboard to digi001 via MIDI

pipeline (midi to lan) to Reason

Sound Blaster SPDIF out to digi001 IN

i tried messing with buffer like crazy, can't get it to stop.

I actually think i fixed it as i'm writing this, I went back to analog 1/8" to 2 RCA plugs. No pops.

Why was it doing this in SPDIF? isn't that suppose to be digital

I had a popping problem going SPDIF thru external preamp/converter into the Digi001. What fixed it for me:

I went into the ProTools session setup window and set the sync mode from "Internal" to "RCA (SPDIF)." Buffer had nothing to do with it.

This may not be your problem -- since you have a complicated chain, the problem may be elsewhere. But try this first if you haven't yet ... I don't use Reason so I don't know what settings would apply to that. Good luck.

Your buffer isn't the problem. It's the S/PDIF. The S/PDIF source has to be the clock master and what ever recieves the incoming S/PDIF signal should be the clock slave.
