I am fairly new to PC based recording so this may seem elementary to some but it is driving me mad. All I am trying to do is get a metronome click(or whatever sound it gives) while recording, so that I can follow it to lay a guitar track. I have followed what the book and tutorial tell me to do but I still am not getting sound. I have a Platinum Live soundcard and am using cakewalk Pro Audio 9. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

go to Options/Project/Metronome.

you can go one of two ways. You can use your PC speaker to play the clicks or you can setup a midi note to play the clicks. When you go midi note you have to allocate the notes to be played with the first note being the accent note and the other three ticks being another note. You must allocate a midi channel - usually channel 10 for drums and the soundcards internal synth will play the notes.

Hope this helps to get you going:)

Thanks for your help guys, although that wasn,t it. But I did just figure out why I couldn't get sound. I'll explain in case anyone else ever has this problem. In the Options/Midi devices I must choose an output port. I have five of them listed to choose from. they are Midi-mapper, Creative S/W synth, SB Live! Midi out, and SB Live Midi syths A & B.

The problem was all in which of those Midi-outs I choose. When I choose either Midi-mapper or SB Live!Midi Out I get no sound. But if I choose any one of the other three I get a click.

Perhaps someone could explain what the differences in the ports are.

The SB Live Midi port is the one hanging out the back that will go to external synths, midimapper is probably sending it to the SB Live midi out wheras the other three are internal synths which is why you hear the sound. :)
