cant for the life of me get a Lexicon MPX500 to work....HELP!!

I picked this thing up yesterday to use as an fx insert for vocals etc on my analog board. Prob is I cant get a signal out of this thing for the life of me.

Its not the board cause I can plug in a digitech quad I have and it works fine.

I checked the setting on the lexicon for analog and still nothing.. Anything im missing here? Any ideas?


I tried it as a aux send for over all fx as well still nothing
 
Are the meters showing an input signal?
Is output level at 100%?? (global system parameter)
If bypass is on, do you get a signal???

Thanks for helping here..

- No signal at bypass
- havent set out put to 100% (will try that)
- meters show no input or anthing at all.
 
EOTS...

If the meters aren't reading any input, there's no signal even getting to the unit so it's not the unit itself (unless it's defective).

Is the Input Trim control set fully to the right? (which would be the correct setting for a -10 input -- the default, which is fully to the left would be for a +4 gain structure.)

Hey, I'll take advantage of this to ask another question about the 500. It's got two channels - can you put two mono signals through simultaneously and apply the same reverb preset to both? I know you can't apply two different presets to the individual channels...
 
Hmmm... I don't quite understand - you can send it a mono signal and get a stereo output. You can also send it 2 mono signals and get a stereo output (same thing as the first point). You can send also send it 2 mono signals and get back 2 mono signals each with separate processing (dual mono effect).

Take a look at the manual online - page 36 describes all the configurations - it's a very flexible and versatile unit.

Bruce, I looked at page 36. It seems to describe ways of combining two effects, and I don't want to do that. What I'm looking for is how to put one effect (reverb) on two separate tracks going to disk. Dunno if I can do that. I'd really, really like to, though.
 
Hmmm, why can't you route one channel with one signal and the other with another??? The inputs in the back are NOT summed to mono, so 2-channel separation is maintained from the input thru to the output, with one (or dual) effects being applied in between as needed.

Bruce, I have read many of your posts and would like to ask your opinion on two units. Lexicon mpx500 vx TC Electronics M-one.

Your opinion on a multi fx for under a grand and another for under 500 bucks.

What about the mpx 1?

Just finished A/B'ing the Lexicon MPX500 and the TC Electronics M*One...

The Lex wins hands-downs.... the 'verbs on the M*One aren't bad exactly, but they don't grab you (well, me anyways), and there's a "sameness" to all of them, regardless of the type (room, hall, ambient, etc...) With the Lex, there's a real sense of space around the sound, not so with the M*One...

The same holds true for the delays - all have the same tone... it's a bit hard to describe... (and yes, I was actually switching presets!) :)
The phasar could have been cool, but I couldn't get it to sound clean - there was always significant distortion on the phase effect - mind you, I didn't try too hard to tweak it.... No... the MPX500 takes it in this one...

And as far as the MPX-1, the processor is very similar to the one used for the MPX500... off-hand, I can't remember the exact differences. The MPX-1 is even better-sounding, but the price is increased to match!

I must admit to liking the realism of the Lexi sound - you certainly can't go wrong with their stuff... (well, 'cept for the MPX-100, maybe, but I haven't heard it myself, only comments from others, some negative...)

Thanks Bruce. I am fairly new to the recording aspect of music but I guess I will go out and do a shootout at GC. I will try to listen for your comments and see if I hear the same. I just got my bonus check from work and have some $ to spend on some gear. I want that rnc Ive been hearing about so much on this site. I am currently using an alesis nanocomp and I can't really tell if it's doing anything other than creating extraneous noises. I am also looking into the fx.

What do you think about the Ensonique dp4 and the Yamaha spx90? I know they are old but I know a guy who is willing to sell.
 
The Yamaha SPX90 - check out presets 35 and 36. Early room reflections - they add stunning depth to a track (even though it's a 16-bit processor!). Some of those older units are AMAZING.... (and of course, can be bought used at great prices now!)

Thanks I will let you know about that shootout. Maybe I'll go today. Anyway, Ive heard the spx 90 and was pretty impressed although I did not compare/shootout with anything. I really think I am going to end up with that Lexicon.

Also, have you heard of a box from Apogee that creates that big radio sound. I don't know what it's called but last year we recorded a cd at this big studio and they used it on our cd. IT's the same size as a nanocomp and it's white.
