Cannot record enable tracks in Digital Performer

When opening new tracks in DP, or using any kind of template, the audio tracks do not allow me to record enable. There is no blacked out record arrow at all, but there are for midi tracks and the conductor track. I found this on MOTU's support site MOTU , but still doesn't help me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure you've chosen an input that actually exists. Make sure that your output is to an actual hardware interface. At least in 4.6, I've found that if your output is to a bus, half the time the input won't enable, and the other half of the time, you get a silent recording.
