Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
Just got an order from sweetwater, just cords and stuff... and a couple handfuls of candy in the box. I'm not complaining, just, that's weird. This is my second time ordering from them, first time getting candy. Is this their normal thing?

I'll be getting an order on Tuesday, so I will check. They are the first place to ever call and thank me for my order. Which was cool and all, but I gave them my wife's number since I didn't think they would ever call. Oops.

yeah-- i get candy whenever i order. i think it depends on who your sales rep is (it will be the same one every time). i have some friends who order from there and never get any sweets.

It's normal from Sweetwater. They usually put it in a clear bag with your receipt. I think Bit-O-Honey and Jolly Ranchers are the most common... at least that's what I usually get when I order from them. You'll also get a follow-up email thanking you for your purchase. Sweetwater takes customer service VERY seriously.

Yeah, no kidding. They call me every couple months to see how my band is coming along and to ask if I need any new gear. It's kinda weird, but it makes me feel bad when I don't buy anything from them...

Jeez, I'm starting to feel like I just ordered from a religious sect that's going to try and convert me. I should check the fine print on their policy page to make sure it doesn't say something like "By ordering from us the buyer promises to believe in Jebus."

I wouldn't sweat it until they start throwing in Cool Aid packets...

Candy=normal for them. Sometimes my orders come with industry magazines, too. Pretty cool.

Personally, I don't have a problem with their customer service. I kind of dig it. I'm actually thinking about trying to work there. MTSU has a good relationship with them. I have friends working there. Pretty nice place to work! Check out the new "virtual tour" on their website.

It might not be a bad gig. I'm betting you get a pretty decent discount on gear. I know my salesman there has a pretty sweet studio with a nice amount of high end gear. The only bad part is you have to go live in Indiana. That would probably be the deal breaker for me.

You might have. Just don't fall for that trick where they ask you to send in a DNA sample to "make sure these monitors are just right for you." :D

That and free shipping. One time I was going to be too busy to get to GC for a set of strings so I did an online order with them and here comes this huge box with a set of strings and a bunch of candy. I apologized to my sales guy. He adimitted they lose money on the small orders.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Sweetwater. Everything from little one-off orders to guitars to entire PA systems. I was treated with respect and I appreciate that alot. Jolly Ranchers make my teeth hurt though.

Yeah they always put in free candy, even their catalog says something about "getting free candy too" or something like that. You know food is a big incentive to us Americans?!

They've been great to me - got the candy and catalog(s) with my order, and great customer service....when there was a problem with the unit that I ordered, they rush-shipped me a new one immediately, before waiting to get the old one back....and paid for the return shipping on the old item too...oh yeah - and candy with the new one too...
...and I get a followup call just now and then, at respectful intervals....they'll be getting more business from me for sure...

Wow. I am surprised at how many people order from Sweetwater. Are you all getting pretty steep discounts from the website prices?

You're right about their prices not always being competitive on everything. But they do make up for it in some ways: free and fast shipping (usually two days from when I order it), 6-12 months no interest payments with their credit card (this offer pops up a few times a year), sometimes they'll run a 10% off sale (and that's off their regular price, not some jacked up fake price), and I'm not kidding about the great service.

I've bought a fair amount of stuff from them and I've always dealt with the same salesman. There's something to be said for that. He keeps track of what gear I own so when I questions about anything, he has some sense of where I'm coming from. And once you build up a relationship, you start to get discounts that aren't made public. For example, when I bought my Blue Woodpecker, I got it for $100 cheaper than any other dealer was selling it.

They stand behind what they sell and if anything is wrong, they fix the problem in a way that causes the least hassle. I had to send a damaged piece back once and they put the new one in the mail right away without making me get the damaged piece back to them first. Not too many companies would do that.

And they give me candy. :D
