Can you use your own domain name if you use a free website builder?

Meh, I hate these 'free website builder' sites, they're all fairly awful and ghastly. I admit there are probably some okish ones out there, but its just all too reminiscent of Freewebs for my liking!

I know that some of them do offer you the ability to use your own domain, though usually providing you pay them an extortionate amount of the privilege or sign up to one of their 'premium accounts' which will end up costing you more than if you'd gone with developing a proper website in the first place.

If you already own a domain then PM me and I can hook you up with some good hosting on my reseller account for free. I can almost instantly set up up with a CMS or blog setup like Wordpress (or similar) which would make it quite easy for you to make a fully featured site.

On another note, yes you can also use Google Mail with your own domain using Google Apps.

seriously. and for $60/year, you can use your own domain name without pimping their garbage.

Exactly, and what if you wake up one day and all the work you put into your website is gone? I wouldn't want to invest a whole bunch of time into something that I didn't have ground level control on, so I'd avoid any site that has their own website builder, although I understand the temptation of that if you're not familiar with this stuff.

I'm no genius with computers, but with that Freeway program I can do pretty much anything I need to and I own the whole thing. When I make up the website, I'm not on the internet, it's just in a self contained program. Maybe it's paranoia, but I think that's a safer way. I'm not relying on anybody, I can yank it and put it up somewhere else anytime I want.

try this

I've been using websitesource.com for $7 a month to host my website and 4 domain names.

I'm sure there are others in the same price neighborhood, but I haven't priced them in years.
