No. PT Express works exclusively with specific Avid or M-Audio equipment. If you want to use third-party interfaces, you will need to purchase a full copy of PT10. I did see on Avid's Knowledgebase that there is a crossgrade option, which means you can jump up to PT10 at a discount vs buying it off-the-shelf.

I do not understand this.
You're correct; The axiom ships with Protools express.
Now, this page tells you everything you need to know about protools express.
Supported interfaces are listed as
"Mbox (3rd Gen), Mbox Mini (3rd Gen), Fast Track Solo, and Fast Track Duo"
and that was updated on 9th April.
There is absolutely no mention of axiom on that page, and as far as I can tell, the axiom isn't an interface.
Unless I've missed something in Avid's cryptic web of information, buyers of this product wont be able to use the bundled protools version unless they happen to own one of the four supported interfaces.
