Can you guys summerize this for me? I'm thinking of upgrading.

Lately I've been feeling limited with my Delta 44 and my Behringer mixer. I want to be able to record drums the way I want, I don't want to comprimise. I want to be able to record an entire band simultaneously. This Layla seems to be able to record 10 tracks simultaneously, that's perfect, and it's only $700. (Only, HA). Can someone summerize (in terms I can understand well) the features of this thing? (I'm assuming it's a soundcard type breakout box similar to my Delta 44.)

"ADAT Lightpipe and optical S/PDIF inputs and outputs are now included, as well as a cool-running supply. Includes a 15' host cable."

I have no idea what a lightpipe does, but when I asked about upgrading a while back, someone said you use it to get more channels or something.

Thanks for your time!

Why don't you just get a second delta 66? It'll be cheaper and you'll have enough tracks to do the drums plus a few(8 analog and 4 s/pdif).

Delta 66 looks the same as a Delta 44. I tried combining my 44 with my friends Delta card for more in/out's, but we got a lot of digital clicks. I've heard it was bad news putting two Delta cards together. I would also need a new mixer with 4 more mic pres. My Behringer only has 4. (This Behringer mixer also sucks, I don't like these pres at all...)

You'd probably want something like the Spirit M8, that has 8 direct outs from each mic pre to go with the Layla.

A lot of mixers may have lots of channels, but they only have either stereo outs or maybe 4 outs. But not the 8 that the Layla can handle.

I know you don't like Behringer, but the UB2442 has 8 direct outs too.

Yeah, I realized that now, it doesn't seem to be an audio interface. (It wasn't in the audio interface section of my Musician's Friend catalog.) I was looking at some MOTU devices, the Aardvark too, be the Aardvark seems to be equipped with preamps already, I don't know what to do with that since I want a mixer. I also don't know if those inputs on the front of it are even for XLR...I think they're both 1/4 and XLR. Now this Aardvark looks interesting:

What I do with my Delta 44 and Behringer is pan the first and second track left and right, then have the third and forth tracks with this "PFL Solo" button also panned left and right, giving me 4 mono tracks. In CEP 2, I tell each track in mulitrack view to get the signal from those tracks.

I need help guys!

The ADAT i/o is an optical digital interface that can transfer another 8 channels of audio (as opposed to 2 channels for spdif). That means you can add something like an 8 channel mic pre with adat outputs to give you a total of 16 inputs on the layla.

"Summerize?" The opposite of winterize?

The Layla has only line level inputs so you still need a new mixer. The 10 tracks include stereo S/PDIF; there are only eight analog inputs.
