can wav's/mp3's be turned into soundfonts?

I've found a decent site for samples (http://www.oneshotsamples.com/) but unlike the other wav's I load into Fruity Loops sampler channel, these ones from that site all play the full length of the file, not for example a stacatto note if I just hit the keyboard for a quick note...it still plays the whole thing.

How can I rectify this? Do I need to turn thes files into soundfonts? And if so, can you give me some starting advice, like software, basic method, etc.?

Thanks very much, as always:)

Welcome to fruity loops :) That is the normal behavior for wave files in fruity.

Short waves with loop points can produce more keyboard like results, but still that's limited. Yeah soundfonts are good, as are synths.

Making a soundfont out of just a few waves isn't usually a great idea because except for the most simplest parts, it'll end up soundling like ass. Especially if you're going to be playing chords.

Acttually I've heard a few Sound Fonts that, instead of being intruments or instrument sets with pitched notes triggered by MIDI Note On messages, contain several loops. This enables one to trigger different loops from a MIDI keyboard, and thereby "play" a loop-based piece in real time, allowing you to trigger and stop the loops whenever you want to. They are of limited usefulness but easy enough to put together.

Let me see if I can dig up an example... I'll be back...

the sample at the link you posted are very low bit rate 96/44, you may want to consider Wav or at least 196kbs and above samples...

just a thought....

Thanks:)

I knew it was kinda fishy when I had to convert them from mp3's to wav. But it's a start - or not LOL:)

Thanks for the link:)

naw, all mp3 are compressed, ie: all the BS is filtered out so they go through the net faster, but at around 192kbs and lower you can hear the audio degrade, it doesn't sound like or as good as 16-44 Cd audio does...

now i can't tell the difference beyween 256kbs/up and wav, others will voice they can... most techs will chew your arse for makeing statments like this also :)

try and get Wav if not 192kbs, at times i think i can get away with 128 till the mix is done and it sounds like crap... justa thought...

PS. there working on different audio formats everday so it's only gonna get better...
