Can Sound Canvas substitute for TD-10?

My drummer and I recorded drum tracks using a Roland V-drum kit equipped with a TD-10 drum brain. The kit belonged to a friend of mine who will be busy for the next couple of weeks, so we can't use his drum brain to finish the rest of work. We're using Cakewalk's Sonar 2.0 XL. Right now the drum tracks are in MIDI format, and we need to be connected to his drum brain to perform the basic functions like listening to the MIDI track, editing, splitting into notes, and dumping the tracks into an audio track.

Our original back-up plan was to use my drummer's Yamaha drum module, but he said that there might be a compatibility issue being that a)his drum module is of a different brand and b)there are options on the TD-10 he used that are not available on his Yamaha, so his module may not even recognize the data. If we used the "General MIDI" option on the TD-10, we probably could use his Yamaha to substitute for the TD-10.

Our second back-up plan is to use the Roland Sound Canvas, but we know very little about it. Is it possible to use the Sound Canvas to substitute for the TD-10?

Sure - you can trigger any patches you like if you have the drum tracks stored as midi sequences.....! It doesn't have to be drum patches you trigger either!!

BUT... the sound quality of the drum patches in the sound canvas will not be anywhere near as good as the TD-10.........

blue bear...

you're right about the sound quality. i just installed sound canvas and i don't think it's even close to the td-10's quality. but i figured i can at least hear the drum track and have something to play along to while i re-track some of the guitars.

BUT now i have a new problem. i can only hear midi tracks (the drums) or audio tracks (the guitars). i can't hear both simultaneously.

If you're just using the drums as a temporary scratch track, then record the drums to a stereo pair of audio channels....
