Can PT M-Powered open up sessions created with PT LE?

I am going to be involved in a project with other musicians who live in a different city. They have a ProTools LE setup with Digidesign hardware, and they would like me to add my guitar parts to their PT session files. Currently I use a Line6 POD X3 for direct recording of my guitar, and I would like to avoid spending ~$600 on a Digidesign USB or Firewire box. I have read a little bit about the cheaper M-Audio devices and the M-Powered version of ProTools, but it is unclear to me whether I will be able to open a ProTools LE session on the ProTools M-Powered software. I know that PT LE can handle PT MP sessions, but is the reverse true?

Do I have any other options here? Will ProTools LE work with other sound devices, such as a Create Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 or the POD X3 audio drivers? If so, I could avoid buying another piece of recording hardware for the sole purpose of recording guitar tracks for this project.

I am completely new to this, so any guidance you could provide would be appreciated!

yes to your first question
no to your second question
Thanks for the quick response. So I guess my best option would be to buy a cheaper M-Audio device with PT MP. The only caveat is that the other musicians are insisting on recording everything at 96 KHz, which would put me into some of the more expensive devices. I swear I've read articles where people have put sampling rate quality to the test with via jury listening evaluations, and all have concluded that people cannot tell a difference for the most part. Is there really a big sound quality degradation when working with 48 KHz audio instead of 96 KHz?

Dangerous question to ask! Have a search around on the forum for that one.

It could end up being more expensive to buy Pro Tools M-Powered as the software alone is £200 and then you need the interface on top. With a Pro Tools LE interface the software is included.

cheapest way in would be a 24/96 audiophile on the card front-you can buy one here for @ £40. That still leaves the question of software.......
:)

why don't they just send you a rough mix, and then you record your guitar bit using whatever DAW you currently use, and then send them your guitar track(s) on their own?

I think that would be too easy.....and does not give the excuse to purchase protools....

I think the easiest and cheapest way to get Pro Tools (unless you happen to have an M-Powered compatible interface anyway) is to go with the Mbox 2 Mini - unless you don't need any inputs in which case the Mbox 2 Micro is even cheaper (but not suitable in this case).

The Mbox 2 Mini would allow you to record either using a microphone, or a DI with no additional hardware.

If you eventually decide that you want to upgrade to an Mbox 2 (Pro) or a 003 you can without changing the software.
