Can organ-like sounds be created with a MicroKorg?

Probably. It wouldnt be my choice of instrument, but it can be done to an extent.

The microkorg is a virtual analog machine, it specializes in making synthy, ambient artificial sounds. A Rompler (sample based) synth like the Korg MicroX, Yamaha motif, Juno G etc. would be a lot better for what you want.

Even so, a virtual analog can do some decent imitating, you might get an organ out of it.

Depends on the type of organ sound you're looking for. In any case it would be very limited.

You'd have easier time with Romplers as David suggests or even better, additive synths.

Okay thankyou both for the advice... As I'm not too sure of the variations can either of you give me an overview of the various types of synths and their pros/cons and preffered uses.

I'm looking for something versatile, to create organ sounds, basses and pads mainly. I have a budget of £350 (not sure what that is in dollars?), and am looking for something to fit into the very small space I have to work with.

Thanks

When you say 'organ sound', are you thinking of a pipe organ found in a cathedral, or a hammond organ as often used in classic 60s/70s rock?

The hammond sound is quite difficult to get right.
For the pipe organ, Tomita managed to do a reasonable job as I recall, but it took something like ten oscillators per note and had to be done with overdubbing.
On Albedo 0.39, Vangelis apparently used some plastic Italian combo organ which he'd messed around with internally.
Either way, I do not think a 4-voice 2-oscillator synth is really going to do the job

Sorry for not specifying... Yes the Hammond sound is what I'm looking for, also something like a 'Farfisa' sound.

I see... maybe I'll have to stick to soft organs then for now.

If I have my shit straight, and I very well may not, the MicroKorg has either the same, or a very similar sound generating engine as the Korg MS2000, which I own one of. The Korg MS2000 has fairly accurate, yet very cool sounding "Jazz Organ"esque, "Organ Bass", and "Combo Organ"esque presets.

I don't know what all the actual settings for these presets are though.

So what I deduce from the above is that yes, a MicroKorg should be able to produce workable, if not 100% accurate, organ sounds.

I used to do a Hammond type sound with an early '80s vintage synth by plugging it into a guitar amp . . . seemed to help a bit
