Can one manipulate MP3s? Voice to front

Hey all,

I am looking for some advice.

I have some MP3s that need to have the vocals brought forward... Is there any way I can do this without spending a fortune or going to a professional studio?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be most welcome.

treat them like any other recording

- use eq to boost/cut the appropriate frequenties

or

- use a multiband compressor to cut/boost the appropriate frequenties

or

- use a 'karaoke effect' to filter out everything that's panned in the middle (usually voice unfortunatly also bass) and invert the effect to amplify the voice then cut the bass through eq.

or

a combination of these methods

I have looked and I can't figure it out... I haven't seen even one with any kind of equalizer...

when you're an absolute novice it's going to be difficult to do all these things by hand.
adobe audition (formerly known as cool edit pro II)

is the only software i know off that handles mp3's and does the stuff you want.
