Can N-Track Import Drum Tracks?

Hi,
Can N-Track import/use drum track such as Fruity Loops and the like?

I know that some fairly sophisticated multitrack software *cannot* do this, and am currently working with a friend using a simple piece of software called Home Studio which can, so I'm curious if N-Track has this (what seems to me to be) flexibility.

Yes you can import drum tracks either as MIDI and have them playback through whatever VSTi or DXi you use ... or if you have rendered them to wave files, you can import those wave files as new tracks.

Hey not a problem .....
While I got ya here ... Take a minute and register over Here ... there's a bunch of great users there that can help out with n-Track.
Also check out AudioMinds.com for some useful info.

Thanks for these URLs. It's very helpful to have people like you around.

As it happens, I already new about both of these, but for some reason haven't pursued the forum at the N-Track site (I find the amount of info. on Audiominds almost overwhelming, so I'm taking things in bite-sized chunks).

Thanks once again, and keep those URL's coming :)

Wow, over whelming? Hrm, well, give us a shout in the forum and we are happy to help one step at a time.

Thanks, B.,
Have learned a lot more since then, but will definitely take you up on your offer.

Nils was kind enough to reply (in another thread here) with some ideas about why a friend and I aren't able to get the MIDI on my Alesis SR-16 drum machine working when hooked up to another multitrack program (Cakewalk's Home Studio).

The Alesis's instructions seem pretty clear, and we can get audio out from the unit, and can get it to trigger MIDI drum sounds on a keyboard, but can't seem to export to the multitrack software.

If you have any ideas, please let me know, and I'll also try Nils's suggestions in the meantime.

All the best,

gvdv, unfortunately the drums from the HR-16 are not importable as such into n-Track (or any other PC software for that matter). It's a machine from a different era... You may try the following:

1) Get hold of a software VST drum player - DR005 is free...

2) Sample all the drum sounds from the HR-16, one at a time, in the best quality you possibly can. Make a drumset on the drum player (lots of info on this in the manual that comes with it)

3) Record the drum track from the HR-16 with n-Track via midi.

4) Assign the midi drum track to the software drum player loaded with the HR-16's sounds.

You should now have a drum track virtually identical to the one sitting in the HR-16. However, I suggest you get a better sounding set of virtual drums instead. My favorite is the sfz SoundFont VST player loaded with Natural Studio's NS_kit6 or NS_kit7 drumset, but you may be going for a different sound.

regards, Nils

Hey Nils,
Thanks again for the response.

The only reason that I want to use the SR-16 at the moment is that I am still in the process of researching components for a DAW, and so don't have my own set up yet. So, it saves a lot of time if I program the SR-16, go over to my friend's place to work on his DAW, and use the SR-16 as a MIDI controller to trigger the sounds in his synth or use the sounds from the SR-16.

Unforunately, as I mentioned above, the last time I was there, we couldn't get the SR-16 to work fully. Still working on this.

Thanks once again for the replies.
