can the midi that i record into cubase sx be played in a vst instrument?
 
Yes. In fact, that's the very nature of VSTi's. You CAN play them live, but more typically, you'll sequence all of your midi data and then route it through the VSTi to take advantage of the sounds that are available in that particular instrument.
