Can I use a "piggyback cable" to send two S/PDIF sources into my receiver?

OK, I've got a little bit of a dilemma here. I'm using my hi fi receiver for monitoring (yeah I know, not ideal) and I want to send the coax S/PDIF out from my soundcard into the receiver.

The thing is, I already have my DVD player going into my receiver's single digital coax input. It does have two more optical ins for some reason (which seems strange since optical seems less prevalent) but I don't have any optical outs. Anyway, I'm just wondering if I can use one of those "piggyback" RCA cables (or maybe a little splitter thingy) that you can get at Radio Shack so I can plug both coax cables into the same digital input. Obviously both sources won't work at the same time, but I only need one, I just don't want to have to go plugging and unplugging to switch. I know I could just buy the damn thing and try it out, but I'd rather save the hassle if its not going to work. I can imagine that there might be some electrical problems, but I'm thinking it also might just work...

Or, you could just unplug the DVD when you wanted to plug in the monitors... :D

Dammit!

I'm lazy and that's exactly what I don't want to do!

Why don't I just rewire the whole damn place every time I need to turn on a light?

;)
