I just started messin with this computer thing
so i dont know much but i was wondering if there is any way i could run two sound cards for four tracks dig?
ive been recording our band on a PC.
it sounds pretty good but i shure could use the flexabilty
of four inputs and my dads got a %*#*load of sound cards layin around any possabilty?

You probably have I would assume something like the SoundBlaster type of cards. Yes, via software, you could sync the cards, but these cards to not have a way to link the digital clocks with any kind of good accuracy. This usually requires a direct connection between the cards. I don't think the results would be all that pleasing to the ear....:)

There are plenty of 4 in 4 out cards on the market that will offer much better sound, and are very affordable.

Do a search and you will find many recommendations.

Good luck.

yamaha sound card

I have a sondius XG card and i havent started looking through all the hardware crap my pops got upstairs ,but ya ive been reading som old threads(multi sound cards ect.)so whats the deal with AISO and do you know any thing about XG cards i never have had any lit. on it its actually made by harmony i think but it works real good
i think i mean ive made great live 2 track recordings of the band off the p.a. board but live mixing bass, drums, guitar and vocals gets to be a tricky process
band one track vocals on the other
the card has two inputs (mic&line)so mabey i could try different software that would let me select bouth sources in the recording options eh?

actually, the line input is not ONE input, it is TWO inputs. You have an input for the left channel and the right. Almost all recording software will let you choose a stereo input from the card (records both inputs to one track) or you can send each input to a seperate track. All you need is a Y cable that has a stereo TRS jack at one end and two mono plugs at the other. Anyway as for using multible sound cards, I use an Echo Layla and a Soundblaster at the same time. But while it is possible to use more than one Echo Layla (and most other "high end" soundcards) at the same time it is impossible to use two of the same variety of MOST cheap soundcards (this includes Soundblasters). This is because in MOST cases the computer cannot tell the two soundcards apart.

did you read the message?

ya two tracks vocals on one channel band onthe other (R/L). straight from theP.A.board to yes a "Y" and into the sound card.were a live band dig. and by the way is my XG card the same as an SB does anybody know any thing about it like what is the single RCA jack on the back ?....... another input?

yeah I read the message but wasnt sure what you were talking about. You mentioned two track recording but then refered to your line input as ONE input. I thought you were recordingthe band and then overdubing the vocals or something.

almost forgot, I don't know anything about your soundcard but if I had to guess I would say that that RCA jack is actually either a DIGITAL input or output.

Get each of the guys in the band to pitch in $50 and get a real soundcard with multiple inputs dig?

For what it's worth . . .

I am currently running four s-cards simultaneously, got the stock crystaltone, awe64, 20-bit darla, prodif + .

Why would you run more than one card? I just swapped a Darla from a SB Live and found out that the Darla doesn't support midi. Rather than put the SB back in, shouldn't I be lookin' for some kind of convertor? Oh yeah, the Darla won't act as a play through for CD's either...bummer.

Hey Getuh,
Darla used to support CD playback ! Still the best sounding 16 - bit card of the bunch. The reason for keeping the two POS cards on - is - I can. I never use the awe64, but it sits pretty with the rest of em.

Yeah, that kinda sucks doesn't it...they bump it up to 24 bit but nuke the CD input...what were they thinking?!

Ive heard if you use Winamp, you dont need a CD input...is this true?....

I was hoping you were right gidge, but I just tried it with my Layla and it lets you play mp3s but not CDs.

If I hunt for my ole darla driver disk maybe I can play cd's again . . . na . . .she is better off this way . . .

if I couldn't play cd's thru winamp - I would surely die

I have the same question. Can you use two soundcards? Basically, I'm looking to use a special audio interface w/analog inputs, but I also want to use my computer in the normal course. Based on my understanding (after reading replies to a prior post), these audio interfaces do not operate in the same manner as a sound blaster sound card; I think it has something to do "synthesizers." Any advice?

my reply is to carter hey man sorry if i came off like a prick.
it just takes me so long to type a message and i dont really know the lingo i get kinda frusrated with technology:rolleyes:

No poblem toenail:D

Hows everything working out with the recording???

its goin allright, digital is soooooo unforgiving though huh?
i put a link to a couple of tunes in the mp3 mixing forum if ya wanna gimme som feed back
