Can I really increase the output of my SCXD?

Slowing becoming un-noob.
So I was reading around on other forums looking for mods to do on my SCXD.
Found this:
"I goosed the power supply and am running Tung-Sol 5881s at 30 watts output. That's worth a notch or so on the volume control. The aforementioned Ragin Cajun speaker is worth another notch or so"

So how do I "goose the power supply?"

you mentioned elsewhere that you don't solder. that means maybe you shouldn't do this mod (it also voids the warranty).

you already have a 2x12 cab - driving that will be VERY loud. Why would you need more? Just mic it and let the PA amplify the goodness.

The guy who mentioned that mod (BillM) is a mod junkie (in the best sense) - he's comfortable with amp circuitry, he knows why that mod would work, so he did it, because it could be done.

I don't mean to discourage you from learning, but since I am at about the same place with my SCXD, I'd say: learn to re-bias your power tubes first (no soldering, but will give you a glimpse inside). Just looking inside might deter you for a couple years :D

I can solder (passive guitar circuitry) and I'm still being cautious about modding the amp. With a guitar any mistake is a cheap fix. With the amp - mistakes can be final for the amp and possibly for you (high voltage).

I understand you, I too have the "mod bug" - I like modding when/what I can, especially for cheap. It's great. Just pick your battles.

going from 6l6 to 5881 is pretty much plug and play (with a bias adjust).... as to the supply cant say for sure but he probably means he's stiffened the filters... which in this case could mean adding 50-100% more capactence in parallel with whats there... improvements??? marginal and only if you're interested in sharp edgy type of sound (metal?) and could be worse for some styles as part of the creamy kinda distortion comes from power supply sag... which you just "solved"...

...worth a notch or so on the volume control.

so do you really find yourself with volume on 10 to really need to "go to 11"?

does anybody sell actual volume knobs, which go 0-11? i'm off to google that!
