Can Fruity Loops be used as a soft synth?

I just ordered an Evolution MK-225C USB MIDI keyboard. I was looking for some software that has synths - I wanted to get Reason 2.0 but the price at $270 (best I could find) is too steep for me. FruityLoops looks more reasonable at $99 but up to now I always thought it was just for creating loops. Can I do synths in FL? Thx
 
Thanks for the link. I was unaware they had soft synth plugins (total noob), that looks like what I'm looking for.
