Can Cubase affect inputs?

I am currently getting no input signal (on the trim leds)on my Tascam US 224.
I have checked cable and mike inputs and they are all fine.

Does this definitely point to component failure on my soundcard, or can settings in Cubase VST in any way cause this?

Cubase probably wouldn't have anything to do with it. I would make sure the signal is indeed going in there, and if it is, it could be the soundcard.

Make sure all gain pots and faders (including master) are up.
