I just got my computer yeaterday, but there is a problem. Every time I install a program and click on the icon I get this error

"A fatal exception OD has occured at 0028:0000000B. The current application will be terminated."

Then the screen goes back to windows.

Maybe a computer geek or someone who has had the same problem can help me. I wanna get recording!!! Thanks!

For starters, uninstall the program. What O/S are you using (Win98se, 2k, XP), and what program is it?

thanks for the quick reply... I'm using Windows 98 and the program is Sonar. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it multible times. And I have tried installing other programs and they did the same thing. thanks

yikes. sounds like you've got a conflict of some kind (hardware, software, windows, or driver). I'd start going through process of elimination.

1) Uninstall everything you don't absolutely need (including Sonar for now)
2) Disable any virus programs
3) Make sure your hardware drivers are up-to-date (esp. audio & video)
4) Try re-installing Sonar. If that doesn't work, check the Cakewalk site and make sure that Sonar doesn't have any conflicts with any of your hardware)

5) Worst comes to worst (and I've had to do it before), re-install Win98 (eek).

I'd also call Cakewalk tech support before you got too far into it. They might have a better idea off the bat.

I did all the stuff above and I even reinstalled windows 98...nothing. I think I'm gonna try installing XP. Thanks Seanmorse79 for the help!

If you've got a fairly decent box, XP's probably a good idea. However, if you've got a hardware conflict, you still might be outta luck. Keep us posted.

-I think you've got bigger problems than not having WinXP, if it won't let you install any programs. A great many people run a great many programs on Win98 just fine. - I have no idea what's wrong from your description, but it's something major. That doesn't mean it's expensive; it could be that a memory card isn't inserted properly, or something similar.... --- If you don't know enough to check it yourself, take it to a shop or a willing charitable computer geek and have them go through it.
...
- You said you "just got it".... something seems very not right. Did you buy it brand-new or used?

My understanding is that while Sonar will technically work with Win98, it really wants 2000 or XP to work properly. Since my hardware is limited to 9X, I have stayed with Cakewalk 9 just to avoid problems like what you are having.

Yeah, and it has to be Windows 98 Second Edition or it won't period.

Thanks guys! I installed the new Windows and it worked! So thanks for all your help!
