I currently have an SBLive but am considering an Echo Mia or M-Audio 24/96, or any similar cheap dedicated recording card.

The Echo Mia only has two analog ins and outs. Does this mean you can only play back two tracks out of this soundcard?

My SB can play back I think 64 simultaneous wave files, but it only has one output...this sounds contradictory to my question, I know, but I'm a beginner. Help?

Your recording software can mix wavfiles to a stereo output, so all you need is 2 outputs. How many simultaneous wave files you can play depends on how fast your computer is, how much ram you have, and which software you use for recording.

The info Apa shared with you is correct.

With the MIA you can record 2 tracks at a time. Actually, if the Mia's inputs are stereo you can import 4 mono tracks that have been panned L and R.

SB you can record 1 stereo track or 2 mono tracks that have been panned L and R.
