I'm still baffled at how to get good sounds with computer recording. Here's my sound chain:

Strat>Boogie Mark IV recording out>ART OPL mic preamp>Audiophile 2496 soundcard>CakeWalk Sonar XL

I'd like to mic my amp, but I was just getting too much noise. I noticed the computer monitor makes everything buzz more. So I went to the recording out of my amp, and this has gotten me a little closer. Everything is still real stale though. Any ideas? Give me your setup if you're a Sonar user... Any help is appreciated.

Stale as in too dry perhaps? Direct injection tends to start off like that. A mic'd speaker has many tone variations due in very large ways to the speaker's filtering, the mic's tone and positioning (position is a huge variable), plus whatever 'room ambient effects that might be needed to come close to how we might hear it live.
