Cakewalk sucks. What's a good replacement?

I get halfway through a song and the damn level settings start having a mind of their own. I’ve brought this to the attention of Cakewalk in the past and their solution is to take a snapshot of the project and rewind, or go into each track and draw level and pan settings. Like I set a track at a specific level with the console view, save, exit, then come back and the level is back where it was before I set it. This shit usually starts to happen when tracks have been edited and there are some track copies and such. Then today, along with that, there appeared an EQ patch on all tracks that I never put there. Like 14 EQ’s that just appeared out of nowhere. I’m sick of dealing with it. Is there anything decent at around the same price? Something that uses DX plug-ins so I can at least keep my effects?

N-TRACK!Try it out.If you don't like it,you aint out much$!

I've tried everything there is. To me the easiest, most user-friendly, most stable one I've ever demo'ed is Vegas.

Upgrade to Sonar for like $79 or whatever... cant beat it. Stable, easy and feature rich, better than most.
Sounds to me like you have some automation turned on somewhere.

question is how much moeny do you have?
if you have some get SX...

If you're doing audio, Samplitude and Nuendo are both excellent.

If you're just recording multitrack audio, no MIDI at all, then nothing beats Cool Edit Pro for simplicity, straight-forward operations and reliability. Even the effects/eq and other signal processing works good.

I own SonarXL and Vegas, but for ease of use, and plenty of features I use Cool Edit Pro.

Samplitude is probably left to die by the big Apple. Damn shame, it's an awesome piece of software.
