Cakewalk: Studio or Producer Edition

Other than the per channel EQ feature and assignable FX controls, essentially they are the same product. You just get a few extra bonuses tossed in with Producer Edition, i.e.,:
VSampler
Sonitus Plugins
Full Version of the Lexicon reverb

I bought the Studio version as I already had a sampler (Kompakt) and the Waves plugins. If you are starting from scratch and don't have anything else, the Producer package is not a bad value. Otherwise, you need to determine how much you value the extras.

The per channel eq is probably convenient, but not a deal breaker IMHO. You can accomplish the same thing manually with just a little extra effort.

Idgeit,

Also check out Home Studio.. if you don't want to spend as much up front they are a good package also, plus they use the same audio engine as Sonar.

Look at all the Cakewalk alternatives,

if you don't have any effects plug ins right now, i think the sonitus plug is are worth the extra money alone. they, hands down, beat the crap out of the plug ins tha come with cakewalk. The reverb is awsome and the delay is pretty easy to use.

Studio Edition has no real-time compressor, no dedicated limiter or noise gate, etc... If you're starting from scratch go with Producer Edition
