I am beginning to be not amused by this Vista problem.

I have just bought an M-Audio Firewire 410 which comes with Live Lite 6 (very limited edition with 4 audio tracks...) and Pro Tools which wouldnt load on a Vista laptop saying it would only load onto XP.

Through days of downloading drivers and updates and battling through to get to be able to record on Ableton's Live Lite, I then find out about the 4 audio tracks.
And then I discover that to upgrade to the full Live Lite 7 is £200. Far too much... and more than I paid for the M-Audio...
It seems an unusual company that doesnt sell its wares on Amazon where it can be reviewed in an open way. I dont think I want to commit to them...

So, I have been trying to work out which editing software to get for much less.

I have used Cool Edit a few years back, but Cool Edit seems to have disappeared.

I must be able to get some program that will download and upload onto the M-Audio Firewire 410 and allow me to do simple track editing from a guitar and mic for under £100

Now I see that I can buy Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio 6 for £80. It seems to be sold as a Vista version.
Will this be what I want?

Any suggestions appreciated...

I run Cakewalk Home Studio 6XL on a vista PC :)

It works great and I have absolutely no complaints about this software.

However, depending on how many inputs you will be using simultaneously you may not even need HS6, I used to run Music Creator 3 (round $30) and only upgraded for more simultaneous inputs.

Good luck!

Vista seems to be going the way of ME, in that nothing seems to work well with it....except SONAR.

SONAR has been compatible with Vista since ver 6, while ProTools still has not hit the shelves with a supported Vista version. Cubase 4 has Vista support, but depending on when your local retailer bought it, you may need to download a patch or it may be included on the packaging.

Live is a capable suite, but is highlighted more for sampling and looping, kinda like Acid was. Ver 7 is Vista supported, but again, you could do better with SONAR.

Good Luck!!
