hi there! here's the deal........i want to record from an analog synth that doesn't have midi. i was told i can record it into my cakewalk as "audio". now how on earth would i do that? i have a SB LIve! platinum card with live drive interface...it has a mic input. would it go in there? please help! thanks so much for your time

use "line" input. You will probably need to get an 1/8 inch adaptor. In cakewalk, set it to record audio instead of midi, arm your track, and you should be ready to record.

One more note, the Line input on the Live is stereo 1/4-in. I suspect that your analog synth would have at least stereo outs, so you will need an adapter to connect two 1/4-in. mono plugs to a single 1/4-in. TRS stereo plug.

:) Make sure you go into the LINE IN and not the MIC IN.

spinsterwun,

If I'm not mistaken the LiveDrive add-on combines these connections into a single 1/4-in. jack labeled "Mic/Line," with a preamp gain knob that is adjusted accordingly.

you guys rock!

guys, your help is well appreciated! i got it working. ok one more question though... on my alesis qs 6.1, there are TWO count em, TWO line out/outputs. one for the Left main, and the other for the right main. now my live drive only has one mic/line in input. so am i missing the other half of the audio when i just flip a coin and go with the results (right or left)? or does it matter? is there a solution/adapter? :) thanks so much guys, you rock!

elec, time to go to Radio Shack!

Take your left and right outputs, and buy a stereo adapter that will convert them to a stereo 1/8 jack. I will assume that you will have 1/4 inch cords with 1/4 on each side. They have adapters that you can plug both left and right into, and at the other end there is a 1/8 inch to plug into the soundblaster. Cheers

thanks!

thanks! i'll take that advice! you are so cool guys!:)

Make sure you get the right size and that it's stereo (TRS) on the end that goes into the SB. If you have the Live Drive like I think you said, it's a 1/4 in. TRS plug you want and not a 1/8-in. TRS plug.
