If I remember well, Cakewalk 9 (intially) only has a parametric equaliser. Perhaps that's part of the confusion. But you can add bass with a parametric equaliser too!
Also bear in mind that many mics have a proximity effect which will boost bass frequencies - just sing closer to them. Downside is that the pops get loader, and some mics are not so keen on the condensation that will come from your breath!
And remember, mic working conjunction with preamp. So, no matter how great your mic is, it doesn't mean a thing if you hook it to your on board sound card Mic In . What's your pre amp ?
