Cakewalk-Midi question

Hello,
I am new to midi and need some basic help using it with HS2004.
Can comeone explain how the following are related.
In
Out
Ch
Bnk
Pch
You would think it was obvios but if I put "none" in the ch i get a sound but if a set the ch to anything I get nothing.
I dont have a keybourd so I'm using the piano view.
Also,M-audio 1010lt.
Is there any good books on Computer Recording?

To answer the questions you asked about in-out etc. there is some general knowledge needed and some specific knowledge.... eg, how to I pick a midi in channel in Sonar. To get some general knowledge, try this... it is long, but very, very good:

After you have digested some of the midi material there, just look up your question in the Sonar help file. Try looking at Tutorial #1 and 2 and also look in the section on "controlling playback."
