Hi,

I have : HS2004XL
M-Audio 2496
P4 2.4 with i gig ram on win xp pro

everything works great, latest ASIO drivers installed but I'm having lot's of dropouts when I loop 1 or two measures for playback.
Even if I'm using only one track, drums lets say, after a few loops Dropout occurs. On longer measures this doesn't happen much even though no matter what the size, using soundfonts (Purchased and quality) there's a noticable click as the loop resets to it' s starting point. I have no programs or internet connected only HS is open and running. Anyone have any ideas on what causes this? Latency is at it's automatically installed settings.

Thanks, Dan

First thing to do is to make sure your system is properly tweaked up. Go to -

www.musicxp.net

and check their tweaks out.

Then I would increase the I/O buffer setting - try 128, 256 and 512 in the OPTIONS-AUDIO section. If you still have issues, increase your latency.

Only other thing to do is make sure you have the latest or stablest ASIO drivers for your sound card.

Ciao,

Thanks Qwerty,

I actually did the XP tweak thing a week ago after seeing the link on another post. Yours perhaps? It was excellent, cut right through all the XP cutsie bullshit and gave me noticable performance. Buffer change didn't work but I'm new at HS so I might be missing something.

Any effects turned on while looping? Does turning them off make it different?

And did you try increasing the latency? If you are using ASIO, you may need to click on the ASIO PANEL button in OPTIONS-AUDIO as opposed to just moving the 'Buffer Size' slider on that window.

When you said the buffer change didn't work are you talking about the I/O Buffer Size thing from OPTIONS-AUDIO-ADVANCED?

Sometimes dropouts are caused by Video card latency, where your video card hogs the pci buss.

You can runs a tool from here http://www.mark-knutson.com/technique_to_target_inc/ that reports on the latencies of various devices on the pci buss. If your video is set to 255, it could be the culprit. The tool also lets you adjust the latency downwards temporarily. If that fixes it, that's the problem

The latency buffer size in the ASIO panel worked at least in the few test runs I've done, I used the Dyad DXi for soundfonts instead of the free rgc:audio sfz this time, could it be that too? looking forward to Sunday where I'll have plenty of time, thank you very much qwerty > Bulls Hit, the link you posted is an overall interesting read in itself, thank you both.
