Cakewalk H.S. 2000 vs. Windows XP Pro
Hello to all and to all ships at sea...

Have Cakewalk HS 2000, running on an AMD 1800, 512 Ram 80 gig with XP Pro. and a SB Live 5.1.... It has hung the system twice so far when trying to edit a project.... this just me or a regular occurrence?

Just curious to see if this has happened to anyone else and what the did to get over it.....(besides getting something else) I've spent all I can for a while (at least that's what she who must be obeyed has said...

keep the peace...
smoke 'em if you got 'em

I think it would have more to do with the fact you have an AMD system then the software. I have HS2002 running on my P4 system with 512Mb, Audiophile, SB Live with no problems whatsoever.

Do you have a VIA chipset? The older VIA chipsets are notorious for having issues with audio software and soundcards.

The first half of your statement is bullstuff.

If it's hot in your production room, it's possible that the proc is overheating, any proc will if it gets hot enough in that PC case. To say flat-out that AMD procs are likely the cause to any problems, then ask me how I ever get anything done as an AMD user  .

The second point is certainly valid, VIA chipsets have a history of not playing nice with sonud blaster Live cards (and even the audigy). Typically, as a PC enthousiast and staffer for a larger overclocking forums (qualifying my opinion here ;) ), when encounting possible VIA chipset sound issues, I have people try and reinstall their 4-in-1 drivers, directx8-8.1, and sound card drivers (in that order). Other option is to do what I did and sell your Live card and get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, zero conflicts/issues.

I would have to dissagree. Cakewalk openly acknowledges its software is optimized and written in such a way that it makes use of certain Intel/Pentium specific features.

Ok, so this looks like an AMD vs INTEL duel now!

I'm not going there... I reckon though that it's probably a heat issue. Either get more fans OR lower the room temperture. If you don't, you'll be sorry when your machine just stops working!

It could be your Live!-card that causes the problems? Have you installed the latest drivers from Creative, or are you using Microsofts drivers?

Creative-cards work in mysterious ways, you know.... ;)
